The Essendon Football Club has today written to members to outline the approach it will take to appoint its next AFL Senior Coach.
Please see below letter.
Dear Members,
Appointing our next AFL Senior Coach is one of the most important decisions this club will make.
I'm writing to tell you how we will go about it. We will appoint the best coach for Essendon. The right person to lead this club forward. Someone who demonstrates a clear and compelling vision for the future of our football club.
The best interests of the Essendon Football Club will always be at the centre of our decision-making. We have set a strategy to build a team to compete for the long term and we are well into it. We will continue to bring in high-end talent and high-end people via the draft, player movement and free agency periods. Development and connection are major priorities for our emerging list, as are our culture, environment and overall football structure. Our new coach will be aligned with our strategy.
We have spent the past month consulting with our Board, executive, football staff, coaches and players on what the success profile looks like for the next AFL Senior Coach of the club. This has been a detailed process to form the brief and criteria for our search.
To carry out that work, the Board has established a selection panel charged with the responsibility of recommending our next AFL Senior Coach.
The selection panel is:
- Andrew Welsh, President
- Anthony Di Pietro, Vice President
- Ted Richards, Director and Chair of Football Governance Committee
- Tim Roberts, Director and Chief Executive Officer
- Caroline Monzon, Executive General Manager, People and Culture
This panel brings together deep expertise across leadership, governance, football, and people and culture.
We will also draw on subject matter experts from both within the club and outside it to inform our assessment and decision-making.
Out of respect for everyone involved, we won't provide a running commentary while the process is underway.
When a decision is made on our coach, you'll hear it from us first.
This is one of the most exciting roles in the game. We have an emerging, talented list we believe in and a passionate member base that we are committed to building back into a true powerhouse.
Our next AFL Senior Coach will inherit a group with its best football ahead of it and the opportunity to shape a team capable of consistently competing for finals and premierships.
Unsurprisingly, there has already been strong interest in the role, both publicly and privately.
We are confident in our direction, and equally confident in the coach we will appoint to help lead us there.
Thank you and Go Bombers.
Tim.
