Nate Caddy and Archie Roberts have each been named in the AFLPA Intrepid 22under22 squad of 40 for the second consecutive season.

Nearing the end of only their third seasons in red and black, the pair of youngsters have already established themselves as not just regular starters, but focal points of this Essendon outfit.

Caddy’s slotted a career-best 36 goals from 19 games this season as the spearhead in a forward half light on numbers this season - in addition, he leads his side for goal assists (11) and recently signed a contract extension to tie him to Essendon until 2031.

Roberts has again shone off half back after a breakthrough 2025 which earned him Runner Up honours at the Crichton Medal, this time leading the Bombers for average disposals (28.8 per game), effective kicks (15.4) and rebound 50s (5.6).

The 22under22 team is a fan-voted concept that recognises the best 22 players aged 22 and under for the entirety of the season (including Grand Final day).

For a player to be eligible for the squad of 40, they are required to play 50 per cent of the home and away season, equating to 12 matches.

Caddy will be looking to make it back-to-back after being voted in last season, while Roberts is gunning for a first-time place in the final team after making the squad in 2025.
