Essendon’s VFL affiliate, the Bendigo Bombers, have appointed Peter Lodewijks as the General Manager of the club, effective immediately.

Bendigo Chairman, David Joss, said Lodewijks is well-suited to the role having previously filled the position in an acting capacity on two occasions.

“The Board is delighted to be able to reward Peter for his commitment with a permanent position,” said Mr Joss.

“During the past two seasons, the club has had mid-season changes in the General Manager role. In both cases, Peter has stepped up to assist the club in an acting capacity.”

Mr Joss said the development of the club's management would be a focus point in 2009.

“We recognised that our sponsors and supporters require more certainty regarding the on-going leadership of the club,” he said.

“The appointment of Peter is important in the development of long-lasting partnerships as we plan for the 2009 season.”

Lodewijks – a fervent Bendigo supporter – was excited about the future prospects of the club.

“I’m passionate about the Bendigo Bombers,” he said.

“The club has attracted an excellent group of people and I’m very happy that I’m able to continue working with them in realising the goals of the club.”
