As part of its recently established Multicultural Program, Essendon Football Club in conjunction with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship is hosting a Walk in Harmony, a major event to celebrate Harmony Day.

Harmony Day is part of the Australian Government’s Living in Harmony programme and is a day to understand and commit to the benefits of living in a country that embraces common values of respect, fairness, participation, acceptance and a fair go for all.

Our Walk in Harmony calls on the wider community to join the Essendon Football Club, the Department of Immigration and Citizenship, Victoria Police and City of Moonee Valley in a symbolic walk to The Dome as we celebrate Australia’s success as a diverse society united by a common set of values.

The festivities will kick off at 10am from the Flemington Community Centre with a series of pre-walk activities including performances from local multicultural music and dance groups, a BBQ brunch and the chance to mingle with current Essendon players and ‘Skeeta’ the Essendon mascot. All Essendon players not selected for the Fremantle game will be in attendance and will participate in the walk, which will depart Flemington Community Centre at 12noon.

The first 500 participants (registration on the day only) will:

  • Receive free entry to the Essendon v Fremantle game
  • Get to walk a lap of The Dome (inside the ground – being cheered on by thousands of Bomber fans)
  • Receive a free ‘Walk in Harmony’ t-shirt
  • Receive a Sunday Saver Metcard for return travel after the game.
Date: Sunday 8th April 2007
Time: 10am
Place: Flemington Community Centre (25 Mt. Alexander Road. Flemington)
Cost: Free

The Essendon Football Club is encouraging all communities, football and non-football followers to get behind this event and show their support for a great cause.
