Football operations manager, Paul Hamilton, said the 27-year-old is working around the clock to get his fitness back up to league standard.
“We are still hoping Mark will be available for Round 3. He is progressing well and is doing a fair bit of running at the moment and getting his fitness back to the point where we need it to be for him to play senior footy,” Hamilton said.
“There will be discussion with him again at the end of this week to see whether we can build him up to the next level and get him ready for Round 3 but the medical staff are really happy with his progress.”
Lively midfielder, Kyle Reimers, is also a chance to make his anticipated return to the senior line-up in Round 3.
Reimers, who has been suffering from quad tendonitis, will undergo an MRI scan this week to assess the progress of his injury and determine whether his training load can be bolstered.
“Once Kyle has had his scan this week, we will be able to determine how we progress his training,” Hamilton said.
“From a symptom point of view, he is progressing well with what he is doing. He is doing a fair bit of training but we will get the MRI result and it will determine which way we go – whether we ease it off or step it up a bit. We will get that information later in the week.”
In other good news for the Bombers, Brent Prismall is making solid progress in his rehabilitation from an ACL injury and is on track to make a mid-season return to senior football.
Head coach, Matthew Knights, has praised Prismall’s professionalism and commitment to perfecting his training regime to ensure he has his body in prime condition when he returns.
“Prismall has amazed us,” Knights said.
“His professionalism is superb and we really think we’ve found a real player there considering he was in the Geelong starting 18 last year, who are a very strong side.
“He’s aiming for Round 8, we’re saying Round 11, so maybe we can meet in the middle. But he is going really well, training really well, he is fit and he’s strong. Hopefully it will be a good dilemma for us that he is putting his hand up early.”
