Essendon Football Club would like to congratulate Professor David Hill of the Cancer Council Victoria for being recognised as an Officer in the Order of Australia (AO).

Hill received the Australia Day award in recognition for his work fighting cancer in Victoria - nationally and internationally.

The Cancer Council Victoria has been Essendon’s preferred charity since 2005, over which time the partnership has raised almost $1 million to increase awareness and provide support for life-saving cancer research, education and support services.

The partnership focuses on three major fundraising events – Clash for Cancer, Call to Arms and Relay for Life.

Essendon is currently encouraging teams to register for the Moonee Valley Relay for Life which will be held at Windy Hill on February 27-28, 2009.

The 24-hour relay event is one of the largest events of its kind in Victoria and will this year celebrate its 10th anniversary.
