A new winner of the ‘What Essendon Football Club means to me’ competition has been announced after Thomas Sbokas contacted the club following fan concerns he had used an historic quote in his response.

Mr Sbokas said he is a history buff and the quote perfectly describes how he feels about Essendon but that he wanted the prize given to someone else.

A new winner has been selected and will recieve two tickets to the Chairman’s Function this Friday night (valued at $750).

Essendon is special to me because it reminds me of my unbreakable bond I share with my dad. I have been a part of my dad's love of Essendon since I was little. My hair in pig tails red and black ribbon off we'd go to Windy Hill. I'd sit on his shoulders to watch the game then at the most important time in the game I'd request to go to the toilet so off we'd go and dad would miss a whole quarter just for me! This love for Essendon has carried on to my children now and dad now takes them to the footy also complete with their mosquito membership which he brought for them. So Essendon Football Club is special to me because of the father-daughter bond it has allowed us to create.

OTHER FAVOURITES

My parents and six siblings squeezed into Dad's 1962 Holden Panel van every Saturday for Bombers' games. Dressed red and black, our crepe ""floggers"", Mum's cut sandwiches, king-sized thermos, Dad's intense scrutiny of team and player. Unbridled joy or absolute despair driving home, although ALWAYS fish & chips after every match.

EFC means more to me than just a team to support on the weekend. It is my extended family, a role model for me to mirror my values, community spirit and respect for others against. It’s a place where honesty, integrity and work ethic is demanded, but doesn’t go unrewarded.

From the cold and wet days at Windy hill with Dad and Grandpa watching Jack Clarke, to the Dome with my daughter watching Hirdy and Lloydy. Nothing’s changed. The racing heart beat. The tingle in the spine. Luv everything RED AND BLACK. Till death do us part. BOMBERS FOREVER.

they represent an extension of ourselves. When they win, we feel invigorated, when they lose, we share the pain. Essendon looks strong, fit and focussed, and this invites us to live by this manor. Essendon holds an image in the community, one that it's supporters are proud of, and its peers are envious of.

It’s the blood in my veins, the tears after losing, the adrenalin in victory. It’s the pump of a fist as a comeback beckons. It’s the smile that creeps to the corners of your mouth as the final siren nears. It’s Red, it’s Black. Essendon F.C.: It’s for life.

The club makes me feel. Throughout the week I'm just another supporter, but for 3 hrs on a weekend I'm not a supporter, I'm a part of the side. I experience all the emotions the players do, because this is what this club does to you, it makes you feel.

What constitutes an Essendon Supporter? Not colour, race or religion. Not the pedigree of a family or place of birth. Not social status or bank accounts. Not trade or profession. They are one who love the jumper and believes in the greater family that is the Essendon Football club.

Members note: High Mark members will get the chance to hear exclusively from Henry Slattery before the game this Friday night (Rd 10) in the Laureate Room.
The player will appear at  approximately 6.30pm for a Q&A so High Mark members are advised to arrive early.
