“It was fantastic to see so many people turn out today and support the guys – particularly given the weather,” Watson said.
“I know Essendon are really focused on delivering a level of engagement that excites our fans, not just on match-days but all year round and days such as today really highlight that.
“Today is only the start of what looms as an exciting year for the Bombers.
""We are looking forward to a blockbuster fixture which will hopefully allow us to showcase our attacking brand of football against key rivals and we hope our supporters play a large part in that journey.”
An Essendon side minus some of its biggest names has gone down to Sydney by 28 points in its NAB Challenge match at Blacktown tonight. Assistant coach Alan Richardson said there were some very positive signs despite the result and the coaching staff had been particularly pleased with a number of younger players.
