Speaking before training tonight at Wesley College as part of a series of AGL Community training sessions, Sheedy reinforced the reasons behind the Bombers pre-season form.
""I think we are probably one of those clubs like the Sydney Swans who haven’t won a lot of games in the pre-season, but looking at trying to keep our best players available for the first month of the AFL season, and find four or five kids who are going to put their hands up, only way to do that is to leave some of your senior players out,"" he said.
With an encouraging performance last week against the Lions and the return of a number of senior players, Sheedy believes the team isn’t far from where they would like to be at this stage of the pre-season.
""We would all probably love to have one more match up our sleeve, but that’s the way it goes,"" he said.
On Friday night the Bombers will head to Queen Elizabeth Oval for their final match of the regional circuit and the coach is encouraging supporters to get behind the game.
""We’ll have a pretty good line up and it will be a really good game in Bendigo, anyone living up in that area that can go and see two teams that played each other in the finals last year, and Geelong beat Essendon to go through to a Preliminary Final""
""We’re both pretty much in similar situations, we haven’t played our best footy and Bomber (Thompson) is saying they haven’t.""
""Ramanauskas will play, Mark Johnson wont play, Rioli will play, probably Zantuck will play, we are starting to line up a pretty good line up."" Sheedy said
This will be the third consecutive week of travel for the Bombers, but the coach isn’t concerned on the impact it has had on his side since leaving the Wizard Cup in the first round.
""The players can cope with it, they are pretty versatile and in the end I think they will be pretty well right.
""Lets face it, the Wizard Cup is a very quick game of footy… and very different game of footy to AFL."" Sheedy said.
