Peverill showed why the Bombers have recently signed him to a new two-year deal with an outstanding performance on Akermanis. Yes, Akermanis did finish with 20 possessions for the match but he had already had a handful when Peverill went to him.
And it wasn’t one-way traffic – Peverill finished with 21 himself and was clearly among the Bombers best players. There wasn't anything flashy about it - there never is when it comes to Peverill. He just rolls up the sleeve and gets the job done.
Peverill has had an excellent year for the Bombers. He leads the club in tackles (40) and handballs (107). He is averaging 18 possessions per game, belying the fact he is viewed mainly as a tagger. But stopping was the first thing on his mind last Saturday night with winning the ball very much secondary. And Akermanis is one tough man to stop.
""He bolts away from the contest just backing blokes like Voss and Black to win the ball. You have to be careful not to get sucked to the contest because the minute you do he will run 20m the other way and if they win the ball you are in trouble,"" Peverill said. ""And he is so quick and unbelievable around goals – he will hurt you if he gets the football
Akermanis is renowned for having plenty to say off the field. Peverill has played on him a few times and he last Saturday night was one of the few times he had heard Akermanis say anything.
""It was after the incident with the doctor and he just gave me a bit of a pat on the back and told me to forget about it,"" Peverill said.
