General manager of football operations Paul Hamilton said Zaharakis would be a significant loss to the Bombers midfield.
""He hurt his quad at training on Friday, it was a very light session but he was in the midst of a drill and kicking at goal and unfortunately he did his quad,” Hamilton told the Recovery Room.
“There is a tear there which is bad news as he will miss four to five weeks and we certainly missed his spread and run on the weekend.”
Defender Michael Hibberd made a strong return to football from a hamstring injury and is in line for a recall to the senior team to take on Fremantle on June 23.
“It was great to see Michael back, he didn’t play a full game but he played most of the game,” Hamilton said.
“He will play again this week against Box Hill on Saturday afternoon which will give him another opportunity to play a full game.”
“All going well we would hope to have him available to play against Fremantle.”
Hamilton confirmed the substitution of big man Tom Bellchambers at half time in Saturday night’s loss to Sydney was purely a tactical move.
“There is nothing wrong with Tom, it was a big decision by the coaching staff to sub off Tom as we didn’t think we were getting the run we needed.”
“We thought we would go a bit smaller and put a bit of emphasise on Paddy to shoulder the ruck duties and see if we could get a bit more run into the team.”
