Nineteen year old John Williams will be the 40th Bomber to play this season when he makes his debut against St Kilda.
“Those four players have been great for this club and I am lucky to get to play with them and share in their last game,” Williams said.
“I am very excited and can’t wait for Sunday - it will be a big moment and I am looking forward to it
“I wasn’t really expecting it (to debut) because Knighta spoke to me earlier in the week just saying to look forward to the pre-season so I figured that I wasn’t playing so it came as a big surprise.
“With all the injuries we’ve had I’ve been pretty fortunate to get a game. The injuries have hurt us on the ladder but I have been very fortunate.”
At 188cm and around 84 kg, the Queenslander expects to start on the bench and spend time on the wing and up forward. He is especially excited at the prospect of playing on St Kilda legend Robert Harvey.
“Harvey will be around the wing so I might end up on him for a while which would be amazing,” Williams said.
“He’s been such a good player over so many years. His experience can’t be matched and I can’t wait to play against him.
“My goal for Sunday is to play well and stick to the structures and, whatever role I get, try and fill that as well as possible.”
Williams was pick 5 in the 2007 pre-season draft. His family are travelling to Melbourne for the game.
Meanwhile, Matthew Lloyd today said that Lance “Buddy” Franklin would be feeling nervous ahead of possibly kicking his 100th on Saturday night.
Lloyd predicts Franklin (98 goals) will get the ton early in the game but Fevola (92 goals) would not reach the milestone this week.
