A massive crowd braved the rain to see only 13 goals kicked at the MCG in the Anzac Day Blockbuster. Collingwood fans didn't feel the cold however, delighted with a 33-point win over their traditional rivals. The Bombers only managed four goals for the entire game, struggling to come to terms with the wet conditions. The form of the younger players was encouraging, but on the whole it was a very disappointing day for the Bombers.
Over 300 VFL players fought for their country at either the first or second world war. They left their families, friends, jobs and the sport they loved to serve their country. Some never returned. Of the 115 AFL/ VFL players that have died in conflict, 15 have been Essendon players. Anzac Day is a day to remember the courageous efforts of these men. The Essendon Football club would like to pay tribute to its fallen players and all those who stood by their side.
