""It’s a matter who is not feeling happy at his own club,"" Sheedy explained today.
""We are going to approach a lot of people, that is our job. We will approach any player that we think is worthwhile bringing to our club.
‘This club has been in a lot of difficult circumstances where we have to go and find another group of players to help the players we already have here.
""You would have to say in fairness to this club, the board, the fans and the players who have been here over the last ‘x’ amount of years that we have had our fair share of being in the finals.""
Always optimistic, Sheedy believes the time at the bottom of the ladder is a test of character for the club, but he is positive it will be stronger for the challenge.
""It’s a tough little gig, but you have to do it. That’s it, you’re down the bottom four. That’s where the game transcends you sometimes – down not up.
""You have to take the good with the bad in this sort of situation. And not whinge and moan and groan, but get on with the job and making the right decisions to go forward over the next two or three years.""
But looking more short term to Saturday afternoon’s match against St Kilda, Sheedy confirmed that Chris Heffernan and Dean Solomon would both be back in the side.
Neither played against Fremantle, with Sheedy erring on the side of caution with the two, resting the players.
The coach also hinted there might be another debutant this weekend to join Heffernan and Solomon in the side.
""We will probably bring in a first game player. And that could be either Sam Lonergan or young Ben Jolley, I am not quite sure yet. But we are going turn over that group of young players and see who is going to be of great benefit to Essendon in the next three of four years.""
Sheedy has also thrown the challenge for Richard Cole to raise his hand in the final eight weeks of the season. After recruiting the 22-year-old from Collingwood, he has not yet managed a senior game for Essendon after struggling with some soft tissue injuries earlier in the year.
""Everyone has forgotten about Richard Cole,"" Sheedy explained.
""He came to the club very overweight, so it has taken a while to what we expect and I don’t really want to play him until he does that – it’s a discipline thing.
""But he is on track now, and that’s a good thing. If he wants to play for Essendon then get over here and get yourself right to play. Otherwise he would struggle to play league footy any time.""
