Robert Shaw’s thoughts:
Unfortunately for Danny his last game wasn't a good one. He did some very good jobs for us throughout the year, particularly earlier in the year in the absence of Dustin Fletcher and Sean Wellman. Danny has done a good job in the last line of defence and up forward at stages. Danny was traded to Hawthorn during trade week for Mark Alvey and Draft pick 6. We wish Danny all the best at his new club Hawthorn.
What some of fan’s had to say:
Wasn't able to recapture the form that saw him being talked of as a potential all Australia player last year. With Lucus holding down centre half back, he was used more as a utility type player, and never looked quite settled. With Essendon having a number of tall defenders, his move to Hawthorn is probably a win-win for both Danny and the club. Shane King
Did a fabulous job late in the season, particularly with his back and finger injuries. Disappointing to lose him to Hawthorn, but I'm sure all Bomber fans wish him the very best. Matthew Wyres
A FANTASTIC backman that stood up well when Fletcher couldn’t play and will be sorely missed next season. He had a great season and can hopefully do well at Hawthorn. Victoria Manson
Danny did really well through-out the season. He played good consistent football. When Fletcher wasn't playing he had the full load of full-back and doing all the kicking in. He did well with Welsh, Wellman, Fletcher and from time to time Scotty Lucas to work the back-half. Andre Yu
Good reader of the play who's forte is playing the loose man in defence, or the sweeper. Doesn't appear to have the strength to go one on one with some of the key position players. Should be a good acquisition for Hawthorn. John Harink
As the comments said, best game was on Anzac Day against Chris Tarrant where he showed not only an ability to read the play, but a willingness to """"back himself in"""" by playing in front of his man. Danny is a very capable defender and it was disappointing he would not accept the club's terms and has moved on. Hawthorn has picked up a handy player. Roderick Brown
Played well in the back line at the start of the year but way forced into the forward line late in the year where he struggled. A good player, it is a shame to see him go but we got a fairly good trade for him and we had too many of his type at the club. All the best at hawthorn Danny. Geoffery Heffernan
Day in day out this man proved he is one the best back men in the competition going around at the moment. Good luck with Hawthorn Danny ! Zoran Dimitrijevski
