Robert Shaw’s thoughts:
Steve Alessio has been an outstanding player and person at this football club. He has played 184 games and tasted success on a number of occasions. He was an important part of the premiership success in 2000 and has played a key role in helping develop the young ruckman at the club, including David Hille, Jason Laycock, Simon O'Keefe and Tristan Cartledge. Everyone at the club wishes him well in his retirement.
What some of fan’s had to say:
I believe Steve did well with opportunities, which were given to him this season. Retired at the right time has had a great career with Essendon. Thanks for the memories """"ses"""". Bill Papageorgiou
Go down as one of my favourite player to have played at our club. Had a fantastic career that he should be very proud of. Had a few injuries over his career but should be remembered as a hard working ruckman who kicked plenty of goals for us. His best to beat Sydney late in the season last year, in the big come back.Troy Jardine
Will always remember his match winning goal against the Swans in 2002. He made a habit of doing the right things at the right time. Loyal servant of the Essendon FC. All the best, we will miss you. Phillip Lewis-Driver
Sadly Steve didn't finish off the way we all hoped, injury just took its toll. However, he has given great service to the club and we will remember those special times when Steve stood up. Good luck for whatever the future holds Steve. Patrick Rooney
Steve Alessio didn't have his best season in 2003 but still found room to play. However, he was mainly used off the bench as the back-up ruckman to David Hille. Kicking 9 goals was a good effort too! I wish him all the luck in the future! Anna Kelty
Steve has performed admirably in a very difficult position that takes time to master and has served the club well, will be problematic to replace. Best wishes for his future! William Sprague
SES has been a great servant of the club for many years, didn't have the best of years but had some flashback moments throughout the season, would have been handy against Port in our last final. Paul David
Not the note Ses would want to go out on, but never the less he was a great player for us over the years. Your personality around the club will not be forgotten, best of luck mate. Josh Little
Injuries robbed Cess of the end he justly deserved. Gave many years of loyal service to Essendon and deserves all the slaps on the back for a dignified career and one of Essendon's best club men. Well done Cess and best of luck in the future. Paul Bosher
