While the Bombers may not have come home from AAMI Stadium with the four points on Saturday night, there has been definite improvement in the side. One player in particular who is heading the right direction is Jason Johnson.

Over the last fortnight, Johnson believes his game has improved but he is the first to admit it needed to, with his early season form below what both he and fans have come to expect.

""I think I have been getting better, I haven’t been playing that great and I wasn’t overly happy with my performance, but over the last two weeks I feel that I have been getting better,"" Johnson exclusively told Bomber.tv.

""I still need to work on my kicking, I had 16 kicks on the weekend, but I probably didn’t use all of them. I’d like to improve on hitting my targets and that’s something I really want to work on. I am getting my hands on the footy, it’s just the influence of my possessions that I am not overly happy with.""

Against Port Adelaide on Saturday night Johnson was among Essendon’s best players picking up 24 disposals and laying five tackles to be the Bombers’ leading possession winner along with Damien Peverill. It was a tough night out for the players, with heavy dew on the ground to combat throughout the match.

""The actual surface wasn’t all that slippery, the footy was very slippery but the ground was quite firm and in fantastic condition, but it was like it had been raining all day. It was a really, heavy dew and it always seems to be the case in Adelaide,"" Johnson said.

""It definitely did have an impact on the game, we couldn’t really afford to muck around with the footy and we had to get it going forward as quickly and efficiently as possible.""

And with the Bombers travelling to Adelaide again in a fortnight when they play the Crows in Round 11, the experiences from the weekend will keep them in good stead.

""We are definitely playing better football than we were at the start of the season, we have more run off the bench, with guys like Alvey coming on the ground and contributing. And I think we are now a lot more competitive especially in the ruck and at the centre bounce,"" he said.

""We had a couple of guys who hadn’t played a lot of footy this season and that probably is reflected in our last quarters, but we are definitely playing a lot better than we were four weeks ago.""
