Robert Shaw’s thoughts:
If Dean keeps going the way he is going, he will turn into a really, really good league player. He has got himself fit and motivated and he can play half-back, mid-field and wing, so he has got his fitness levels up to an adequate stage. If we can get him to the next level, he will be a terrific acquisition and player for us. He is now developing leadership qualities, so it has been a good year for Dean, but he is still only going at 60% of what he is capable of. That is not a criticism, it is a testimony of what he can do with another year's mid-field preparation.
What some of fan’s had to say:
Dean often showed of excellence but at other times went missing. He needs to get consistency into his game and provide us with the brilliance that many of us know he has. I believe that we still have not seen play to the utmost of his undoubted talent. Here’s hoping for a brilliant 2004 from Dean. Donald Mitchell
A solid year was only ruined by his three week suspension. Overall a strong season and should only improve next year. Sarah Collins
Good year Deano, but we know you can be even better. This bloke has talent to burn!!! 2003 - a year of learning the craft of playing midfield - 2004 is your year to show us what you learnt. We know you can do it! Alan Fairbairn
Despite some good performances, I still believe that Dean has still to give his best at Bomberland. Needs to develop greater consistency to bring his performance into line with his undoubted talent. Richard Rowe
I don't think we've yet seen the very best of Dean Rioli yet. I was very impressed with his determination this year, and he has certainly taken another step towards his full potential. A very exciting player. Joan Hill
Good season, played well as a midfielder and added stability to defence when he played there. Needs to be able to play a full season with no injuries. David Parasol
Dean started off 2003 in great form. He was showing his skills in the mid field. Got struck down with suspension and injury. Maybe with a full season, Dean could give us a even better season in 2004. Josh Little
Dean had a steady but not brilliant season. While it was pleasing to see him find some consistency, it was disappointing that he didn't produce something special more often. If he can re-add that touch of magic to the work ethic he's found over the last couple of years, he could be in the team's best half dozen players. Shane King
