BRILLIANT HIRD PUTS RUMOURS TO REST
Essendon captain James Hird put an end to speculation that he had injured himself in last Saturday’s intra-club practice match with a blistering performance on the training track this morning. Hird trained at full pace for the entire 70-minutes of the session at LaTrobe University. “These things get blown out of proportion,” Essendon assistant coach Mark Harvey said. “He gave a few of them wind burn this morning.”

Hird is now a certain starter for Essendon in its practice match against Sydney at North Sydney Oval this Sunday. “He will play as will most of our list,” Harvey said. “It is an important lead in to our match against the Kangaroos the following weekend. Kevin Sheedy has made no secret of the fact we want to do well in that competition and we will select a fairly strong side.”
Damien Peverill joined in full scale training this morning while Cory McGrath, Toby McGrath and Adrian Wilson were given the morning off following the Aboriginal All Stars game in Darwin.
Damian Cupido wants to play senior football at Essendon – that was the message sent loud and clear at this morning’s intra-club practice match at La Trobe University. Cupido was superb up forward and kicked three goals in the first quarter before spending some time across half back late in the match and looking equally as comfortable. But Cupido wasn’t the only Bomber to impress.
