Essendon has made two changes for its clash with Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday, with Conor McKenna and Brayden Ham named to play their first games of the season.

The speedsters replace Matt Guelfi (omitted) and captain Dyson Heppell, who suffered a fracture to his ankle during training on Friday and will undergo surgery in the coming days.

Orazio Fantasia was named in the Bombers' initial 26-man squad, but didn't pass a fitness test today.

With Fantasia and Heppell no longer in the squad, Jayden Laverde and Andrew Phillips have been elevated to the emergency list.

The Bombers will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the season against the Demons, with the action beginning at 3:35pm AEST and broadcast live on Channel Seven.
