Why did we lose?
The forward line was non-existent (Mary Tovey)
We didn’t win because of attitude. We seem to have lost the desire to “bury” teams – eg) Adelaide. That attitude appears to filter through onto the next game. (Robert Lorenzetto)
Essendon will not win many games if only five or six players have a go. Collingwood won because they had 22 committed players. (Chris Lowrie)
Who were Essendon’s best players and why?
Definitely David Hille (best game so far), Fletcher (Mr.Reliable), and Danny Jacobs – cool and calm in defence. Also Rama and Hird always put in. Heffernan on the improve too. (Mary Tovey)
Hille – courage, perseverance, skill, aggression. Jacobs – reliable. Heffernan – creative. Fletcher – continues to excel. (Robert Lorenzetto)
Hille and Jacobs can hold their heads up high, in an otherwise pathetic performance. (Chris Lowrie)
Where do we need to improve?
If it’s good enough for 85,000 devotees of the game to sit in the pouring rain on Anzac Day – it is good enough to expect our players will at least be competitive. It was an insipid display – embarrassing really. Why play Dean Rioli when he is obviously unfit and overweight? Players should earn a firsts birth. Young Harvey should be given a go and we need to look at our future. We don’t have the quality players coming through and our seconds haven’t won a game. Very worrying signs. (Mary Tovey)
All areas – disposal both under pressure and not. (Robert Lorenzetto)
For starters – play hard, smart footy. Don’t play fancy dry weather footy when it is pelting down. I’m confident the team will bounce back in Fremantle this week playing the style of footy that the Essendon supporters have enjoyed over the past three years.
