The latest Bomber magazine is about to hit newsagents nationally and the cover story is with a very open and honest Dean Solomon. This edition also includes a profile on rising star Jason Laycock, Andrew Welsh looks at the recent trip to Japan while Gary O’Donnell gives us his thoughts on his return to Windy Hill.

Below is an excerpt from the Dean Solomon cover story.

The leadership group recently embarked on a trip to Japan. The players immersed themselves in Japanese culture for almost two weeks and lessons were learned about the importance of respect and discipline.

But it was the group discussions at the conclusion of each day that were most confronting for the players. The group put it all out on the table and told each other what they did and didn’t like about those around them.

Solomon said some players didn’t like what they heard, some got upset, some were surprised but he said in the wash up it was a great learning experience for everyone involved.

""I found out how undisciplined my teammates felt I was at times on and off the field,"" Solomon said. ""We had dinner and we sat down and went through each person on the trip and we had to come up with a positive and a negative,"" he said.

""There were no names mentioned because we wrote it down on paper but the word undisciplined came up five or six times for me. It didn’t hurt me – I knew I had been at times. I suppose what I didn’t realise it how much it hurt the guys.""
