The on again, off again knee surgery for young Essendon ruckman Jason Laycock is now back on with the emerging big man having arthroscopic surgery this afternoon. Originally Laycock was to have the surgery after the bye, allowing him to play against Melbourne this weekend.

However, the decision was made to have the operation to repair cartilage damage in his right knee as soon as possible.

Today’s procedure is the most recent setback for the 21-year-old who now faces a six to eight week period on the sidelines. One of the unluckiest players on the Essendon list, already this year he has undergone a knee arthroscope, an ankle arthroscope and had a thigh injury.

In better news for the Bombers, Scott Camporeale is expected to make his return this weekend after being a late withdrawal against Geelong, while James Hird, Patrick Ryder and Kepler Bradley will all be tested later in the week as possible returns to the team.

Richard Cole is still one week from returning to football still recovering from his hamstring injury he suffered while playing for the Bendigo Bombers four weeks ago.
