This Saturday night, Kevin Sheedy will coach his 522nd game – it will take him to equal third place on the ‘Games Coached’ list. And the man who he will draw level with is the man whom Sheedy spent almost his entire career playing under at Richmond – the great Tom Hafey. After 522 games their coaching records will bear an amazing resemblance. Tomorrow in the Engine Room we begin a two-part series on the achievement.
Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy says the Bombers are not a club in decline despite the groundswell of opinion the club will struggle in 2003. “We are one of the youngest clubs – I don’t think we are going through decline, in fact I think it is a very exciting time for this club,” Sheedy said prior to this afternoon’s intra-club practice match at Windy Hill.
