The door is open for Essendon big man Scott Gumbleton to make his return to senior football this weekend against Port Adelaide after a number of strong performances in the VFL this season.

With Stewart Crameri still to serve a week of his suspension and Michael Hurley being subbed out of Saturday night’s loss to St. Kilda with a hamstring complaint, football operations manager Paul Hamilton said Gumbleton was in line for a recall to the AFL side.

“When you sit back and weigh up what the different variables are that will be one that will be bought up,” Hamilton said on SEN.

“He played really well yesterday and he has now put a few games under his belt in the VFL and he is certainly one that the coaching group will have a look at coming into this week.”

The 23 year old collected ten disposals in the first three quarters of Bendigo’s win over Ballarat yesterday before he was taken off as a precautionary measure.

Jason Winderlich also made a successful return to football for Bendigo, watching the first half from the bench before collecting 12 disposals in the second half.
