The Essendon fans were in total agreement that Matthew Lloyd had an outstanding season in 2003. The All Australian full forward impressed everyone with his goal kicking, marking and also his on-field leadership. The Bomber fans believe that Lloyd is the premier full forward in the competition and it was a fantastic achievement to break Simon Madden’s goal kicking record. Lloyd received a ranking of 8.3/10 from the Essendon fans.

Robert Shaw’s thoughts:
Matthew had a really consistent year. The thing we like about Matthew is that even if he is having a bad day, he will still kick two or three goals in tough marking situations. He doesn't look to travel far and wide to free himself up to get easy possessions. He prefers to take the punishment that is delivered to him at full-forward. Every now and then I would love to see him free himself up and go to centre half forward to keep the opposition guessing. He has had an outstanding year and with the team's form in the first half of the year, it is not as if he has had an arm chair ride to 93 goals. He has had to get a lot of his own and I think his partnership with Damian Cupido is going to be a fantastic one in the future.

What some of fan’s had to say:

what more can anyone say but a true champion, you can only show by example and there is NO better than him, congratulations Matthew on a great year, please keep it up you're a legend! Mandy Szwarcbard

Coleman Medallist on numerous occasions and an integral part of the Essendon Forward setup. Outstanding year once again, a leader for the club and always puts in 110%. Charlie Spicar

Absolute champion. Hard, courageous, team player and great kick. Hopefully other players in the forward line can follow his example. Barring injuries will kick another 100 goals again. Michelle Gardiner

Consistency combined with great marking and kicking skills are the hall marks of Lloyd's game. It is rare that he plays a poor game and then it is probably due to injury. Needs more support from fellow forwards, as he often has to compete with two or three opponents. Impressive when at centre half forward and look forward to him spending more time in this role. Leonard Clark

Lloydy had another terrific year but I would prefer to see him stay at full forward. He is the best full forward by a mile, I think we need to exploit this more. Give him the whole forward fifty to himself and no one will stop him. Mick Coll

Another great year by Matthew who would have kicked the ton if not for some minor niggles throughout the year. Has regained his confidence after the finger troubles and his marking is better than ever. Will have a great year next year and hopefully kick that third ton his after. Steven McNaught

Matthew played well all year, both in front of goals and further down field. Even when Mathew was not contributing goals himself, he was helping set up others. While playing down field, he showed excellent leadership and defensive skills. While in front of the goals his accuracy was again great. Congratulations on a great year Matthew. Ronimary McCabe

This guy continues to amaze. He always steps up when we are hit with injury. He hasn't been suspended for 2 years now so he has improved on that part of his game. His kicking for goal is the best in the comp. Fantastic season Matthew. Mark Hosking
