Key Bombers David Hille and Angus Monfries are likely to be sidelined for the next two games after sustaining hamstring injuries in the Bombers’ narrow nine-point loss to Sydney yesterday.
Essendon football boss Paul Hamilton says the club is waiting on further medical clarification to determine the full extent of their injuries.
“We think David Hille has a grade 1 hamstring injury which is a good result in terms of hamstring injuries,” Hamilton said.
""We still need to have that confirmed by MRI, and it’s the same with Angus Monfries.
“We think they’ll probably miss the next two games, then we’ve got the bye, and then they’ll be available the week after (against Adelaide).”
Speaking to Bomber.tv today, Hamilton said that several players from the Bendigo Bombers are eligible to be called up for the Round 12 clash against Geelong.
“The good news was that Tom Bellchambers was best on ground for our Bendigo side and that gives us a bit of confidence, and obviously he’s put his hand up to play,” Hamilton said.
“We’ve got a number of other players that (are coming) back through the VFL like Kyle Reimers, Henry Slattery, Ricky Dyson and there’s a few other guys that are playing some good football down in the VFL.”
Also missing from the Bombers’ line-up on the weekend was Brent Stanton, who struggled to return to full fitness after sustaining an ankle injury in the previous week’s game against the Western Bulldogs.
“We gave him every chance to come up and we waited until Saturday to make sure he was OK but he wasn’t,” Hamilton said.
“It was just a jarring, and he was a bit sore during the week. We expected it to get better and it didn’t.
“Over the course of this weekend it has improved so we’re very confident with him. We’re not expecting him to miss any more games, so we would hope that Brent Stanton comes back into the side.”
Hamilton said the return of veteran defender Dustin Fletcher from a one-match suspension would also be important.
Essendon medical staff will also keep an eye on Bomber young gun Jake Melksham as he recovers from a slight knock to his ankle.
“He went back on the ground and played the game out so we think he’s OK,” Hamilton said.
""We need to see how he trains but the medical staff are pretty confident with him.""
