Essendon tonight flicked the switch on the Bulldogs, posting an exciting nine-point victory to turn around their poor recent record against the Dogs.

Young defender Tayte Pears was thrilled with the Bombers’ ability to produce a four-quarter performance against the Bulldogs.

“It was a great win for the boys particularly with the way we were able to get on top early and hold our lead,” Pears said.

“To their credit, the Bulldogs came back a little bit in the last term but we were able to hold on and get the win which was great.

“I think the last couple of times we played the Bulldogs we have been close but they have got away with the win but this time we controlled the game and the guys are obviously stoked.”
Pears says the Bombers’ third straight win gives Essendon added confidence in their game plan going forward.

“We are just starting to get back into a little bit of form and tonight was a reflection of that,” he said.

“We are playing the football that we know we can play and it is good to get a little bit of confidence back in the side.”

A solid team effort across the board had the Bombers looking dangerous and Pears says it is something the team need to produce consistently to cement themselves as strong contenders in the competition.

“We are focused on building consistency throughout the whole playing group and we are improving on that and when we get it together, we play good football,” Pears said.

“It was really good to have Dempsey up and going because he was really impressive for us tonight.

“Fletcher is fantastic week-in, week-out and he was fantastic again tonight and Hurls was also amazing.”
