Essendon is one of Australia’s largest affiliated sporting bodies and operates in conjunction with clubs throughout Melbourne’s north-western suburbs to help support thousands of local sports-people.
Mr Jackson said the club is proud of the positive impact it is having in the community.
""We are happy that the club is in a strong enough financial position to be able to support our affiliate clubs by providing them with over $316,000 this year,"" he said.
""Essendon wants to have a positive impact on the community and, by supporting our affiliate clubs, we can help them flourish and do more for their members.""
Essendon also provides ongoing maintenance of the Windy Hill facility - such as preparing the cricket wickets and bowling greens - which benefits the affiliated sporting clubs based there.
The maintenance of facilities combined with financial support provided to affiliate clubs by Essendon is valued at almost $1 million over the past three years.
Essendon’s 10 affiliate clubs cover the following sports; netball, cricket, tennis, bowls, water polo, hockey, baseball, ladies hockey, baseball, croquet and athletics.
Some examples of what the affiliate club's have been able to do with their funding are buying new sight screens for cricket, upgrading tennis courts, purchasing sporting equipment and subsidising costs associated with the hire of courts and swimming pools.
