A poor first half cost the Bendigo Bombers any chance of victory in last Sunday’s VFL match in Hobart. Wet and slippery conditions greeted the players as they took on Tasmania at Bellerive Oval, with muddy patches and a heavy ball proving difficult. Despite the 34-point loss, Bendigo coach Peter Banfield remained up beat. ""We won the second half so that was a positive,"" he said.

Nine goals to one in the first half was the difference as both sides went goal for goal after the main break. ""We didn’t start very well. We did not get enough of the footy early to put any pressure on Tassie,"" Banfield conceded.

Despite the best efforts of Tristan Cartledge, Kepler Bradley and Jason Laycock, the poor conditions made it difficult for Bendigo’s taller players to have an impact on the game.

Banfield praised the efforts of his players after the half time break.

""The second half was really positive, we finished the game off well. Damian Cupido (two goals) was good in the second half,"" he said.

""Jobe Watson worked very well and had a crack for the whole game. It was pleasing to see him continue his form. He’s getting fitter and really starting to get up to good match fitness,"" the coach said.

The Bombers will be out to improve their record of two wins and two losses this Sunday.

""We play Werribee at Chirnside Park. Hopefully we will rebound, we won there last year so hopefully we can go down there and have a win,"" Banfield said.
