List manager, Adrian Dodoro, predicts the upcoming trade period will be one of the more active ones in years when he appears on the Finals Show this week with former Premiership star Paul Barnard.

“It’s starting to hot up and clubs are starting to talk,” Dodoro said.

“There are seven to eight ruckman who will get picked up in the national draft this year I think - it is a very good tall draft but there isn’t as much depth in midfielders as there has been in previous years.

“Our thoughts at the moment are simply to do our homework and we have the trade period and draft camp coming up and then we have a month to analyze the information. Pick 5 is a terrific pick and it depends on what the clubs do in front of us on what sort of player we will take.

Barnard says Geelong is clearly the team to beat following their first final thrashing of St Kilda and he can’t see anyone getting close.

“It was like having the world heavyweight champion taking on the Cranbourne local champion and it was a huge flex of the muscles. First 12 minutes was exciting but it was over after that,” Barnard said

“They won the flag last year and appear to have more self belief now,” Dodoro said.

Dodoro and Barnard also discuss the recent re-signing of Mark McVeigh and Jason Laycock for two years.

“Laycock is one of those guys that we have huge expectations of. He has been criticised but he’s still a young man and is starting to get experience under his belt. The guy can play and he is part of the future of this club,” Dodoro said.
