Strengths: Reynolds has all the attributes needed to play AFL football but the most impressive are his speed and marking ability. Reynolds is extremely quick over short distances which aids his evasive skills and ability to lead when playing up forward. And despite standing 186cm, he is also a very good overhead mark. Reynolds looks a natural footballer and he certainly has the right bloodlines to make it.
Position: Just where Reynolds will settle remains somewhat of a mystery mainly because he is so young. His body is still some way of maturing so where he finishes in terms of height and weight remains to be seen. For now he looks likely to be asked to play a role up forward in the seniors but with time the match committee would probably prefer to see him develop into a running midfielder who can take a mark.
2003: Reynolds is a young man in a hurry and he will have set himself the goal of playing most games in the seniors in 2003. To do so he will have to ensure he has an influence – Sheedy has never been in the business of handing players senior games on a platter. That said, there is definitely something about this young man that has you believing he has an enormous future. He moves well, reads the game well and has all the skills. He also wears the long sleeves – remind you of anyone?
Kevin Sheedy says: Due to the number of injured players in 2002, Joel was fortunate to experience a few senior games at age 17 which gave him a great insight as what to expect and what he can become. He has gained good strength and body mass over the summer at the same time he put in a great effort in the professional sprinting ranks which gave him and his team mates a lot of fun and experience in the sport of athletics. We will be looking to Joel to replace some of the players we had to let go, but he is still very young to be in the big league but I think he has the hunger to make it to the top.
