The Eagles have handed the Bombers their fourth defeat in five matches, with the inexperienced Essendon side unable to match it with the pace of West Coast. A blistering opening quarter by the Eagles set up the win, booting six goals to one which forced the Bombers to play catch up football all night. After quarter time West Coast did enough to further extend the lead and run out winners by 44 points.
