ESSENDON defender Tayte Pears has stepped up his training as he continues his cautious return from a serious foot injury suffered last season.

Pears’ recovery from off-season surgery on his foot has taken longer than expected, but his return to running, along with the progress of Darcy Daniher from a groin injury, has the club optimistic neither will miss too much of the home and away season.

""It’s pleasing to see both those boys, they’ve both had tough pre-seasons,"" Essendon football manager Paul Hamilton told Bomber TV.

""Tayte’s been getting a fair workout, particularly in the running side, which is promising. We’re really positive about those two boys. They won’t play in the next couple of weeks, but hopefully they’re not too far away,"" Hamilton said.
