Lively forward Alwyn Davey will miss next week’s NAB Cup semi-final after sustaining a hairline fracture to his arm in the club’s NAB Cup victory over Melbourne.

General manager of football operations Paul Hamilton said the 26-year-old remains in the mix for Round 1 after scans revealed no displacement to the bone.

“Alwyn suffered a knock very, very late in the game against Melbourne last week which caused him a little bit of soreness post-match before scans later revealed a small fracture,” Hamilton said.

“It is disappointing for Alwyn and the club because he has had a very good pre-season so far.

“The positive is that he will still be able to keep running and maintain his fitness levels so he won’t be set back too much.”

Hamilton said the Bombers would make multiple changes over the coming week with key players, including captain Jobe Watson, expected to return to the senior line-up.

“There will definitely be a few changes to the team next week with a number of players coming back from being rested against Melbourne,” Hamilton said.

“Jobe Watson, Heath Hocking and Sam Lonergan are all expected to come back into the side after being rested.

“Part of our pre-season rotational process has been to give players a week off at different stages of the NAB Cup so we will have another opportunity to rest a few more players this week.”

Michael Hurley (corkie), Jake Melksham (bruised knee) and Courtenay Dempsey (concussion) remain a chance to play despite suffering minor niggles against Melbourne on Friday.

“Courtney will be assessed later in the week while Jake and Michael will be monitored throughout  the training week. We are clear that we will not take a risk with any player with an injury concern,” Hamilton said.
