Coburg and Essendon have been champions in their own Leagues ever since Australian Rules Football began. Essendon won the first VFL Premiership in 1898 and Coburg won three VFA Premierships in a row from 1926 - 1928 upon entering the VFA in 1925. For years the communities of the now named Moreland and Moonee Valley municipalities have had the pleasure of being able to follow both these champion teams at the same time.
