A dozen players have been charged after the match review panel's assessment of Round 13
The AFL wishes to advise the Match Review Panel has reviewed the weekend’s matches. The following charges were laid:
Charges Laid
Lance Franklin, Hawthorn, has been charged with a Level Two striking offence against Maverick Weller, Gold Coast Suns, during the third quarter of the Round 13 match between Hawthorn and the Gold Coast Suns, played at Aurora Stadium on Saturday June 18, 2011.
In summary, due to a previous poor record, his one-match sanction must remain at one match, even with an early plea.
Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Gold Coast Suns, the incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points). This is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Two offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction. He has an existing bad record of four matches suspended within the last three years, increasing the penalty by 40 per cent to 175 demerit points. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 131.25 points and a one-match sanction.
Brent Stanton, Essendon, has been charged with a Level Two tripping offence against Nathan Grima, North Melbourne, during the third quarter of the Round 13 match between Essendon and North Melbourne, played at Etihad Stadium on Saturday June 18, 2011.
In summary, due to a five-year good record, he can accept a reprimand and 70.31 points towards his future record.
Based on the video evidence available, the incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point). This is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Two offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction. He has an existing five-year good record, which reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to a reprimand and 70.31 points towards his future record.
Kyle Hardingham, Essendon, has been charged with a Level Two engaging in rough conduct offence against Lindsay Thomas, North Melbourne, during the third quarter of the Round 13 match between Essendon and North Melbourne, played at Etihad Stadium on Saturday June 18, 2011.
In summary, he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea.
Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from North Melbourne, the incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point). This is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Two offence, drawing 225 demerit points and a two-match sanction. He has no existing good or bad record. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 168.75 points and a one-match sanction.
Jake King, Richmond, has been charged with a Level Two striking offence against Ash McGrath, Brisbane Lions, during the first quarter of the Round 13 match between Richmond and the Brisbane Lions, played at the Gabba on Saturday June 18, 2011.
In summary, due to a previous poor record, his one-match sanction must remain at one-match, even with an early plea.
Based on the video evidence available, an investigation by the MRP and a medical report from the Brisbane Lions, the incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points). This is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Two offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction. He has an existing poor record of four matches suspended within the last three years, increasing the penalty by 40 per cent to 175 demerit points. He also has 9.35 demerit points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 184.35 points and a one-match sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 138.26 points and a one-match sanction.
Mathew Stokes, Geelong Cats, has been charged with a Level Three striking offence against Justin Koschitzke, St Kilda, during the second quarter of the Round 13 match between the Geelong Cats and St Kilda, played at the MCG on Saturday June 18, 2011.
In summary, he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea.
Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from St Kilda, the incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and groin contact (two points). This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Three offence, drawing 225 demerit points and a two-match sanction. He has an existing bad record of one match suspended within the last three years, increasing the penalty by 10 per cent to 247.50 points. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 185.63 points and a one-match sanction.
Justin Koschitzke, St Kilda, has been charged with a Level Two engaging in rough conduct offence against Mitch Duncan, Geelong Cats, during the second quarter of the Round 13 match between St Kilda and the Geelong Cats, played at the MCG on Saturday June 18, 2011.

Josh Hunt, Geelong Cats, has been charged with a Level Two striking offence against Adam Schneider, St Kilda, during the second quarter of the Round 13 match between the Geelong Cats and St Kilda, played at the MCG on Saturday June 18, 2011.

Nick Malceski, Sydney Swans, has been charged with a first offence for making negligent contact with an umpire (Michael Jennings) during the fourth quarter of the Round 13 match between the Sydney Swans and Carlton, played at Etihad Stadium on Sunday June 19, 2011.

Shane Mumford, Sydney Swans, has been charged with a Level Three engaging in rough conduct offence against David Ellard, Carlton, during the fourth quarter of the Round 13 match between the Sydney Swans and Carlton, played at Etihad Stadium on Sunday June 19, 2011.
In summary, he can accept a two-match sanction with an early plea.
Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from Carlton, the incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), high impact (three points) and high contact (two points). This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Three offence, drawing 325 demerit points and a three-match sanction. He has an existing bad record of two matches suspended within the last three years increasing the penalty by 20 per cent to 390 demerit points and a three-match sanction. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 292.50 points and a two-match sanction.
Other Incidents Assessed
The match day report against North Melbourne’s Todd Goldstein for striking Essendon’s Ben Howlett was assessed. The panel said the force used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.
The match day report against Melbourne’s Ricky Petterd for striking Fremantle’s Ryan Crowley was assessed. The panel said the force used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.
Contact between the Adelaide Crows' Rory Sloane and a umpire from the first quarter of Friday’s game was assessed. The panel said the umpire changed direction as he moved backwards after a ball-up. It was the view of the panel that there was no negligence by player Sloane in regard to the contact that was made and no further action was taken.
Contact between North Melbourne’s Luke Delaney and Essendon’s Heath Hocking from the second quarter of Saturday’s game was assessed. Hocking was towards goal with the ball and has a shot at goal as Delaney jumps in the air, in an attempt to smother the kick. It was the view of the panel that Delaney’s attempt to smother the ball was a realistic attempt to stop a goal and the high contact that was made was deemed to be accidental. No further action was taken.
An incident involving North Melbourne’s Brady Rawlings and Essendon’s Angus Monfries from the third quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. The panel reviewed the contact between the two players and determined that contact was made by Monfries to the arm and chest area of player Rawlings. Rawlings did not grab his head or claim that high contact was made at any time. As such, no further action was taken.
Contact between the Brisbane Lions’ Jack Redden and Richmond’s Shane Edwards from the third quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. Contact was made to the upper arm and chest area, while the force was deemed below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.
Contact between St Kilda’s Justin Koschitzke and the Geelong Cats’ Cameron Ling from the second quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. Ling has the ball and is tackled by Koschitzke and taken to ground. As Ling is going to ground, he makes contact with the legs of St Kilda player Brendon Goddard. It was the view of the panel that the force used in the tackle was not excessive in the circumstances and Ling was not treated for any injury. No further action was taken.
