Reg Burgess fought off tough opposition to become the latest Champions of Essendon inductee. Burgess polled the most votes ahead of 1993 premiership players Joe Misiti, Mark Mercuri and Gary O'Donnell. Burgess played 124 games for the Bombers between 1954 and 1960. The dual best and fairest winner was a fast moving and high marking wingman and centreman. The wingman was also selected in the State side in 1957, 1958 and 1960 and won an All-Australian blazer in 1958.
