There were seven not-particularly-close matches in AFL round 16 – and one absolute blockbuster. The only match that will be remembered from this weekend of action was the extraordinary contest at the MCG where Essendon came from eleven-and-a-half goals down to triumph over the gutsy Kangaroos. However there were some other significant results. Collingwood tumbled out of the eight after a loss to Hawthorn, and Port Adelaide was beaten by Brisbane at the Gabba, which pushed Port out of the top four. There is now a one-game break between eighth (the Bulldogs) and ninth (Collingwood), but the Bulldogs have a poor percentage of 97.99 and could still be vulnerable to teams like Geelong (which beat West Coast) or the Roos.
