Key forward prospect Scott Gumbleton is a near certainty to line-up in the club’s practice match against Sydney this Saturday night in Blacktown.
Football boss Paul Hamilton today declared the Bombers’ 197cm big man is desperate to play.
The 21-year-old has endured an injury-plagued career since being drafted to Windy Hill with selection No.2 in the 2006 national draft, however Hamilton says he is fitter than ever and raring to go.
“We wouldn’t want to keep him out for much longer,"" Hamilton said.
""He got through a week of training last week but the reality was, it was only a couple of sessions and we wanted to make sure he had three or four good sessions under his belt before we allowed him to play.
“We know his fitness is good so that won’t be a problem, he is actually outstanding for a guy of his size.
""It is just about making sure he is strong and well prepared and everyone in the medical and high-performance group are saying he is ready to go so we will wait and see what happens at selection.”
Gumbleton dominated the club's February intra-club match in Shepparton but suffered a back spasm in training the following week and missed the club's first two official pre-season games against West Coast and Melbourne.
In an exclusive and revealing interview in edition 58 of the Bomber magazine, Alwyn Davey reveals he didn't feel confident in his knee during the 2009 season. Despite playing 20 games, the 25-year-old said his first season back from a knee reconstruction would barely get a pass mark.
