But just because things on the track were lighter, it certainly didn’t reflect how the team is preparing for the big match on the weekend.
""We just have an opportunity to win a game, we don’t do the draw, but no one would have been thinking that Brisbane or ourselves would have been fighting their way out of the bottom four,"" Kevin Sheedy said before training this afternoon.
""It will be a great game, we might actually get the biggest crowd ever at The Dome, because of the two great clubs who love having a great crack at each other.
""You’ll have 44 players all trying to get the 50-50 ball and every loose ball, and that’s what footy should be.""
Matthew Allan trained solidly, and having missed a month of senior football with knee soreness had a successful return with Bendigo last weekend and is in contention for senior selection this week.
""We will consider Mathew Allan, he got a game under belt with Bendigo along with three or four other boys and it puts pressure around the team to perform.""
But it is the young brigade of the Bombers that is really pleasing the coach. Having had to defend his youth policy earlier in the season, it would appear it is now paying off for the side. Sheedy was particularly impressed with Jason Laycock, Andrew Lovett and Kepler Bradley who have all been publicly recognised for their achievements this season.
""Some of our younger players stood up last week and helped us win which was pleasing to see. We are really pleased with Laycock and Andrew Lovett for winning the Anzac Medal.
""We have three big ticks in the club by round 5. If they can continue their form it will help us this season for sure,"" Sheedy said.
Kepler Bradley had a modified training session this afternoon, and despite being a late withdrawal for the Essendon on Monday, the coach still rates him a chance to play on Saturday night.
""He’s got a good chance, we’ll have a look close look at him tonight,"" Sheedy said.
