""Nine out of ten passes to their full forward were delivered perfectly, laces out,"" he said.
""Sometimes they get a bit excited and make mistakes but the Tiwi islanders really do seem to be born to play this game.""
With such good delivery there was no surprise that full forward, Ephrem Tipungwuti, dominated their game kicking nine of the Bombers’ 28 goals. Rumbalara Captain, Phil Guthrie, kicked four goals.
The Tiwi Bombers outran, out manoeuvred and out classed Rumbalara who fought hard but could not match the speed and teamwork of the Northern Territory stars.
It was the first time the Tiwi Bombers had played at the MCG - which they cheekily described as too small - but they were not overwhelmed and had good crowd support for the second half. Both teams were cheered off the oval and helped set the scene for classic Essendon v Richmond clash later in the evening.
The Tiwi Bombers trip south was been made possible thanks to Essendon Football Club, ERA, RIO Tinto, TIO and the Northern Territory Government.
While in Melbourne the Tiwi Bombers had a training run at Windy Hill (as did Rumbalara), toured the Essendon facilities, had a BBQ in the social club, visited AFL world and made media appearances.
""The creation of the Tiwi Island Bombers has had a positive impact on the Tiwi Island community and we are proud to have helped them represent their community on football’s biggest stage on the weekend,"" Essendon Managing Director, Peter Jackson, said.
""As an affiliated club of the Essendon Football Club we are pleased to assist them. Their curtain raiser game and the main game were all about celebrating the role Australian Rules Football has played in building bridges between cultures.""
Mr Jackson again thanked the other supporters that have made this event possible: ERA, Rio Tinto, TIO and the Northern Territory Government.
The Tiwi Bombers have recently been included in the full NTAFL season having played the first third of the 2006 / 07 season.
