The scholarship will be awarded to an up and coming sportsperson and will serve to provide encouragement and support to a deserving candidate, and to ensure that the spirit and legend of Dick Reynolds will continue for future generations.
Hayden Rydberg is overseas at the moment, so his parents, Christine and Gary, accepted the award on his behalf at the Dick Reynolds Club Cocktail Party at Legends Room at the MCG last night. Essendon chief executive Peter Jackson and Moonee Valley Mayor Cr Mark Kennedy presented the award.
On his behalf, Hayden’s parents received a perpetual trophy that we will be displayed at the Essendon Football Club Hall of Fame. Hayden also received a $1000 grant from City of Moonee Valley. The grant is to assist with expenses associated with sports participation such as travel, equipment, coaching and so forth.
In its inaugural year the Scholarship attracted six applications, all of a very high standard. The applications were assessed by a selection panel including City of Moonee Valley's Mayor, Cr Mark Kennedy, Chief Executive Officer, Peter Black and Group Manager Community Development, June Dugina as well as a Community Representative Liz Mordaunt who sits on Council's Festivals, Recreation, Arts and Culture Community Committee.
