Taken by Essendon at selection 28 of the 2003 National Draft, Jay Nash was the only draftee not to play senior football in 2004 – a fact reflected in the fan’s ranking of 2.84. Coach Kevin Sheedy always said 2004 would be a transition season and Bomber supporters agreed. Now they are ready to see the promising 19-year old from South Australia make his debut in the Bomber’s guernsey in 2005.

“Injury early caused an interrupted preparation. Let’s hope Jay can get a good pre-season under his belt and make an impression next year.”
John Harink

“Not enough opportunity to assess this guy. Saw a little of him in the reserves, but hoping he can produce something as he matures. Probably falls into the project player category.”
Stuart Nixon

“Certainly the least developed of last years draftees, Nash probably always needed the extra time to get his body ready. Time for some hard work with Bendigo and see where he can go.”
Michael Wyres

“Jay was our only recruit from last year's national draft not to play a senior game this year. Let’s hope Sheeds will give him a go in 2005 to show the type of footy he can play.”
Phil Perry

“Obviously is taking a little time to adjust to his surroundings and pick up the pace of the higher levels of footy. At the same time, he does have wraps on him and hopefully we will see the real Jay Nash next year.”
Samuel Wharton

“His first season at the club so we can forgive him for not getting a senior birth. Is a big enough guy so hopefully pushes for a game next season.”
Jake Sluiter

“Unable to rate Jay's performance in 2004. He should be aiming to get a game in 2005 and build on his fitness and skill levels. Given a solid pre-season and an opportunity in the pre-season comp, Jay should make his debut in 2005.
Paul Bosher

“A great talent, pity he didn’t play in the seniors this year but it was understandable when you look at his size. He has great pace which we sorely need at Essendon but will need to be given some time to develop.”
