Angus Monfries says the Bombers are continuing to improve despite not being able to put the finishing touches on their game against the Power yesterday.

“I think we played some good footy in patches and to fall short like we did by three points was a really disappointing effort,” he said.
""Everyone was gutted after the game. There were areas of our game that were really promising but some of our kicking and elements of our offensive game let us down.
“Having said that, I think our defensive pressure was really good again this week.
""I think we laid a number of tackles and I think that was one of the positives to take out of the game yesterday.”
Essendon led for three-quarters of the match and had a number of opportunities to put the game away but poor execution and decision making gave Port Adelaide the opportunities they needed to work themselves back into the match and seal the win.

“We had a number of opportunities to win the game and we didn’t take them and to Port Adelaide’s credit, when they had their set shots and their opportunities they took them and I think that was the difference in the end,” Monfries said.

Monfries says the group will review the game during the week and will focus on improving their deficiencies ahead of an important game against the Saints next week.

“We just have to keep working on our game-plan and our structures and getting the small things right and what we have to do as a club to get better,” he said.
