Flash Footy is the first television show of its kind in Australia combining the two themes of Indigenous and Multicultural realms in both football and society at large.
Australian Football is the sport of choice for Indigenous Australians and this is clearly demonstrated by 11% of AFL lists being made up of Indigenous players, yet less than three percent of the total
Australian population is Indigenous. The show will focus on the 90 Indigenous players in the AFL and multitude of Multicultural players including the likes of Tadhg Kennelly, Mike Pyke, Harry O'Brien, Majak Daw, Karmichael Hunt, Israel Folau, Nik Naitanui, Bachar Houli, David Rodan and many more.
The format will include interviews, a player of the week as chosen by Kevin Sheedy, special events and crosses; such as Michael Long’s ‘Long Walk’ and the AFL’s Indigenous Round/Dreamtime at the G, plus Multicultural Round, the China exhibition game and South Pacific under age AFL Championships in Tonga.
A 70% Indigenous and Multicultural presence both on air and behind the scenes/production staff is also set to be a true working model for Flash Footy promoting employment for these community groups, as well as giving them a microphone to tell their stories and have a strong say in the look, feel and sound of the show.
For season 2011 there will be two SPECIALS, with the view of a 24 episode series for 2012 running inconjunction with the AFL Home and Away series.
Both specials for 2011 will screen on Fox Sports One at 7pm.
Brent Prismall pushed his claims for senior selection with an impressive performance in the Bendigo Bombers' 27-point loss to the Casey Scorpions last weekend.
