Essendon assistant coach and former Adelaide captain and Premiership player Simon Goodwin has confirmed his commitment to the Bombers despite speculation linking him to the vacant senior coaching position at the Adelaide Football Club.

Goodwin, 34, has informed club officials that he is committed to Essendon’s journey and will not fill the void left by Neil Craig’s departure earlier this season.

“I am really enjoying my time here at Essendon and feel that I have a great opportunity to develop under the current coaching structure,” Goodwin said.

“The knowledge that guys like Mark Thompson and Brendan McCartney can impart from their experience in building Geelong’s Premiership side, as well as sharing in the journey of James’ first year as coach is invaluable and will set me in good stead to develop as a coach.”

Goodwin admits he has ambitions to secure a senior coaching position in the future but said he is enjoying his time at the Essendon Football Club and is committed to the journey.

“A senior coaching role might be something that I will look at further down the track but at the moment I am happy with how everything is going at the Bombers,” Goodwin said.

“I am excited by the development of our club and our players and I want to try and help this group achieve their potential which will hopefully result in future success for the Essendon Football Club.”
