The hit out was the Club’s final competitive match before the NAB Cup, where Essendon will take on both St Kilda and the Brisbane Lions in Round One.

New recruit Dyson Heppell was a stand out in yesterday’s clash, with Assistant Coach Sean Wellman impressed by a number of first, second and third year players.

“I certainly think guys like Jake Carlisle, Jake Melksham and David Zaharakis all played well and have improved sharply,” Wellman said.

In the lead up to the NAB Cup, Wellman said there was an air of excitement within the team, returning to competitive matches against opposing clubs.

“The guys are focused on competitive matches and are looking forward to testing themselves against real opposition.”
