Legendary Bomber Michael Long made a stand for his people when he walked to Canberra in 2004 to meet the Prime Minister. Michael wanted to highlight the social inequities between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
This Saturday night we ask Essendon supporters - and all football fans - to join Michael on the 2010 Long Walk.
The Long Walk celebrations - which are FREE - start at 4pm, Saturday 22nd May at Federation Square.
The walk to the MCG will take particiapnts past the club's 'home-game' theming of the stadium which will include giant four metre pillars of the eight Indigenous Bombers.
Taking part in TLW is one way for Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians to come together and bring about community awareness and ultimately a better future for all of us.
The Long Walk Charity is a community partner of the Essendon Football Club. Together we aim to continue to promote awareness around key Indigenous issues and work to establish programs that create and nurture Indigenous leadership.
