""I probably find it difficult when somebody attacks a club that we are not ruthless enough at the top of Essendon. I would think we are one of the smartest footy clubs in the nation and I think you will find in the next year or two how good a club this is.
""And there is probably another six clubs in Melbourne that would love to be where Essendon on and off the ground could be. Forget the footy team, we will have the captain back and you never know what could happen in the next year or two,"" Sheedy said.
Sheedy has also issued a challenge to his players this week demanding they improve for the match against an in-form West Coast Eagles this weekend.
""There is no reason we can’t turn around the losses we have been having because we haven’t been disgraceful.
""You have got to be competitive in this game. You owe it to your fans and that’s what I have been about all week,"" he said.
""Every match has been the sort of situation of ‘if only’ well it probably cost us three or four goals.
""I think the head coach like myself has to keep building up the belief system and that confidence. You’ll have a lot of muck ups along the way in the world of footy.""
It was a spirited performance on the training track tonight with enthusiasm and sharp skills displayed from the whole group – Sheedy even threw is some push ups and sit ups mid session to keep the players on their toes.
Scott Camporeale stepped up his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury striding strongly, while even James Hird made it on the track tonight for a brief appearance managing a few laps before heading back inside the club.
